- Professor Ramanibai served as Director of the Guindy Campus of the University of Madras with 33 years teaching, research, consultancy and administrative experience. She is also then Professor and Head of the Departments of Zoology and Coastal Studies of the University of Madras.
- A senate member of the University of Madras, she has also served as Dean (Student Affairs), Warden (Women’s hostel) and held positions as Senate / Acdemic council / Planning board member of other Universities in Tamil Nadu, Board of Studies member in 21 University faculties and Autonomus colleges and a University nominee for many Autonomus collages.
- She was invited twice as Visiting Professor at Universite des sciences et Technologies de Lille (Lille I), CNRS Station Marine, Wimereux, France during 2007- 2008, and has visited 24 University departments in western and Eastern world to discuss bio diversity research work in the last two decades.
- As Subject Expert Member she served in SERB and WOS-A programs of DST, Earth Sciences of Government of India in the last decade. She is a recipient of ‘Career Research Award’ at National level from UGC, New Delhi (focused research) in LIFE SCIENCES, and the Basic Sciences Award in LIFE SCIENCES, a one-time CAREER AWARD, and member of many Science Academies and received JRF award for doing her doctoral research.
- An author of 5 books edited in the areas of biodiversity and environment, she has written 27 chpaters in other edited books and authored 116 research publications in peer reviewed International and National journals. Under her guidance 21 students obtained their Ph D degrees, 28 students got M Phil degrees, and 48 students their M Sc degrees. She is guiding now 8 Ph D Scholars and 3 M Sc students.
- A total of 31 projects (Research and Consultancy) totaling to a tune of Rs 2.91 cores was obtained by her in the last two decades leading to the development of a “Bio Monitoring Laboratory” of the Department of Zoology and producing more than 100 research personnel.
